Lepitus: A Canvas for Inner Reconciliation

Lepitus (30"x40")
There are days when the canvas calls to me, not with a gentle whisper, but with an insistent hum, a deep longing to hold all the scattered fragments of my inner world. 'Lepitus' was born from such a day, from a profound need to bring disparate emotions, raw instincts, and fleeting thoughts into a kind of truce, a harmony. The title itself, 'Lepitus', means reconciliation, and it became the silent anchor for my hands as I worked.
I remember beginning with that deep, rich green at the top. It felt like a grounding force, a vast, quiet space within me, holding a certain gravity. As I layered the lighter, almost frantic white scribbles over it, I was thinking of the restless thoughts that often cloud even the most serene moments, the little sparks of questions or doubts that dance on the edge of clarity. Then came the sweeping strokes of soft pink, a tender release on the canvas, almost a sigh. The bright turquoise followed, a sudden rush of exhilaration, like clear water or a fresh breath washing over my spirit.
I let my brush carry the weight of my joy and my struggles. The vibrant yellows that appeared were bursts of sudden insight, moments of unexpected warmth, while those intense red splashes and dots were fragments of uncontainable feeling, small echoes of passion or even frustration that demanded their space. I wasn't trying to control them; I was simply allowing them to exist.
The bolder black lines, strong and unyielding, I laid them down as markers, perhaps representing the pivotal choices or the defining structures that emerge from chaos. And that large, textured block of orange, it was a moment of deep grounding for me, a settling energy, a warm, earthy presence that felt utterly vital in the midst of everything else. Each line, each patch of color, was a step in a dialogue with myself, an attempt to find a way for all these seemingly contradictory parts to not just coexist, but to reconcile, to become a whole, breathing entity.
'Lepitus' is more than a painting to me; it is a testament to the journey of finding peace within complexity. It’s the process of taking all the vibrant, clashing, soft, and sharp edges of my experience and gently guiding them towards a place where they can all reside, side by side, understood and accepted. It’s a moment of truce, not just on the canvas, but within the tumultuous landscape of my own heart.
