Logica Viridis: A Dialogue with Nature's Hidden Architecture

Logica Viridis (40"x50")

The canvas always feels like an unexplored landscape when I begin. For "Logica Viridis," that feeling was particularly profound. I titled it "Logica Viridis"—Green Logic—because it distills so much of what I grapple with in life and art: the search for underlying order within the vibrant, often chaotic, beauty of the natural world. To me, "Logica Viridis" is the very essence of how I try to understand existence, finding patterns and structures in the organic flow of life.

When I started mixing the deep teal and forest greens, I wasn't just blending pigments; I was sinking into a memory of dense foliage, the quiet hum of a forest at dusk, or the mysterious depths of the ocean. These colors, so grounding and rich, felt like the foundational truths, the unwavering core of nature's spirit. I layered them, allowing them to anchor the composition, to feel like ancient wisdom settling on the surface.

Then came the sharp angles, the geometric planes. Drawing these lines, I felt myself engaging in a dialogue with precision, with the idea that even the wildest landscapes have a hidden architecture, a logic to their growth and decay. Each triangle, each trapezoid, was a deliberate thought, a segment of a larger, unfolding idea. I wasn't just painting shapes; I was mapping out connections, trying to understand how disparate elements could coexist and form a cohesive whole. The act of defining these edges brought a strange sense of clarity to my own mind, like solving a visual puzzle.

The pale yellow and the delicate pinks were moments of gentle breath, soft whispers against the intensity of the greens. I placed them to evoke the fleeting light of dawn, or the tender skin of a new bloom, providing a counterpoint to the more assertive forms. They are the soft parts of logic, the intuition, the subtle emotional nuances that temper stark reason. They felt necessary to soften the edges of the abstract thought, to introduce a sense of lightness and possibility.

And that blue line, cutting through the white and green. That was a moment of pure instinct, a sudden impulse that felt absolutely right. It’s a thread of continuity, a distant horizon, or perhaps a fleeting thought that connects two seemingly unrelated ideas. It breaks the expected, introduces a subtle tension, and yet, it feels utterly harmonious. For me, that line signifies the unexpected path within a logical framework, the spontaneous leap of imagination that brings everything into a new kind of focus.

The entire journey of "Logica Viridis" was a meditation on balance – the balance between structure and fluidity, between the tangible and the conceptual. It was a constant push and pull, a joyful struggle to find that perfect resonance where every color, every line, every plane contributes to a quiet, profound statement about the organized beauty I see in the world, and in myself.
