Ludus II: A Playful Journey Through Inner Landscape

Abstract Painting – Original Wall Art – Acrylic Oil Painting & Mixed Media on Canvas – Modern Playful Bright – "Ludus II" – 16"x16" (40x40cm)

When I titled this piece "Ludus II," I wasn't just assigning it a name; I was marking a return, a deeper plunge into a concept that has always resonated at the core of my being. "Ludus," for me, isn't merely about child's play or simple games. It's the profound, sometimes exhilarating, sometimes challenging, engagement with life itself – a serious form of play where rules are made and broken, where curiosity guides the brush, and where discovery is the ultimate prize. "Ludus II" is my second journey into this understanding, a more mature, perhaps more audacious, exploration of this very human inclination to experiment and find meaning in the dance of creation.

As I began to lay down the first washes, a vibrant explosion of color emerged, a direct conduit from my inner world onto the canvas. I felt the surge of bright oranges and audacious pinks, a feeling akin to the first blush of a hopeful dawn, each stroke a pure expression of uncontained joy. Then came the cool, serene blues, a moment of quiet contemplation amidst the vivacity, like finding a still pool in a bustling marketplace. When I layered on the lush greens, I was thinking of growth, of renewal, of the endless possibilities that unfurl with each passing moment. The thick impasto, the rich textures, they weren't just paint; they were the very strata of my experiences, building up, sometimes scraped back to reveal what lay beneath, a testament to the history of every mark, every decision.

I played with forms, allowing the geometric shapes to emerge from the chaos – a bold stripe of purple here, a defined rectangle there. These were my anchors, my attempts to find a whisper of order in the beautiful pandemonium, a way to structure the unfolding narrative. But then, my hand would surrender to the organic, the swirling lines and amorphous blobs, a complete release into the freedom of pure expression, where instinct took the lead. The tension between these two worlds, order and spontaneity, is a constant dialogue in my mind, and I find a deep satisfaction in their harmonious clash on the canvas.

And then there are the little secrets, the whispers that populate "Ludus II." The tiny smiley face tucked into a red form, the scattered numbers (7, 0, 0, 2, 5), the fragments of words like "ein" or "zwei"—these weren't planned; they simply appeared, like stray thoughts surfacing from the subconscious. For me, they are like secret codes, fragments of a personal language, inviting a playful decode, a moment of intimate connection with the viewer. When I painted that ladder-like shape within the yellow oval, I was thinking of ascent, of reaching, of the continuous climb towards understanding, towards new perspectives. Each symbol, each letter, each stroke, felt like a small, deliberate act of placement, yet born from an uninhibited flow.

The physical act of painting "Ludus II" was a rhythm, a dance between letting go and finding control. I felt the brush move, the resistance of the paint, the moment of decision, and then the delightful surrender to the material. It was a game, indeed – a serious game with myself, exploring new combinations, not knowing the exact outcome until the painting itself revealed its true form, piece by intricate piece. This work, this "Ludus II," is my playful journey through the inner landscape of my thoughts and emotions, a vivid and heartfelt testament to the profound joy and unexpected depths that I find in the very act of creation.
