Mixed Media Collage GA-1: A Whisper of Uncovering Unseen Connections

Abstract Painting – Original Collage Wall Art – Acrylic Oil & Mixed Media on Wood – "Mixed Media Collage - GA-1" – 4"x6" (10x15cm)

Today, I revisited 'Mixed Media Collage - GA-1', and it brought me back to that specific afternoon in my studio. The air was heavy with unspoken thoughts, and my hands, almost instinctively, reached for the disparate fragments scattered around me. This piece, 'GA-1', isn't just a title; it's a whisper of a new beginning, a first step in a journey of uncovering. 'GA' for me, is the grounding, the raw, unpolished start, and '1' signifies the very first breath of a series dedicated to finding coherence in chaos.

When I selected that warm, textured brown board as my base, I felt an immediate sense of connection to the earth, to something ancient and enduring. Then, the vibrant yellow grid material caught my eye, a sudden burst of modern structure against the organic. Laying it down, I wasn't just gluing paper; I was stitching together different times, different states of being. I thought about the way life presents us with moments of rigid order and moments of vast, open freedom.

The snippets of German text, those fragmented narratives, they found their place almost on their own. As I tore them and arranged them, sometimes upside down, sometimes right-side up, I was thinking about how much information we absorb and discard daily, how meaning shifts depending on perspective. There's a subtle liberation in rendering text unreadable, transforming it from a specific message into a pure texture, a visual whisper of forgotten stories. I remember pressing down the edges, feeling the sharp contrast between the crisp newspaper and the rough board.

That deep, rich red curve, cutting across the yellow grid, was a moment of pure impulse. I wasn't planning it, but when I cut that shape, I felt a surge of energy, a passionate stroke, like a sudden memory or a strong emotion making its presence known. It's an anchor, a heart within the composition. And the serene teal shapes, floating on either side—one a gentle arc, the other with its faint, almost ghostly numbers—they felt like glimpses of calm, moments of reflection amidst the clamor. I pictured them as quiet pools of thought, offering a sense of peace.

And the string, that delicate white line that meanders across the surface. I debated its inclusion for a long time. But as I laid it down, allowing it to curve and loop, I realized it was the thread connecting everything, a subtle current pulling the disparate elements together. It felt like a gentle breath, a pause, or the invisible ties that bind our experiences. The small white dashes near the top right, they were my own marks, a tiny constellation of hope or perhaps just the silent echoes of my brush, a personal signature on the canvas of shared experience.

Creating 'Mixed Media Collage - GA-1' was an exercise in letting go, in trusting the materials to speak to each other, to find their own harmony. It’s a testament to the beauty I find in the discarded, the fragmented, and the unexpected pairings. Every layer, every cut, every placement was a decision born from both intuition and a deep desire to explore the unseen connections in our fragmented world.
