The Creation of Haeyum: A Visual Diary of My Mental Wanderings

Haeyum II (72"x60")

This is how I remember it, the creation of *Haeyum*.

When I approached the canvas for *Haeyum*, I wasn't searching for a specific image, but rather a sensation, a pulse. I began with the rich, earthy reds and deep oranges, feeling their warmth spread across the surface, a foundational energy. As I laid down these initial strokes, I thought of the deep roots of existence, the core of all things vibrant. Then, the blues and greens entered, bringing with them a sense of calm, a cool breath against the fiery base. I found myself lost in the balance, pushing and pulling, letting the colors speak their own language.

I remember drawing those long, elegant U-shapes, almost like arms reaching out or paths unfolding. They felt like echoes, repetitive yet unique, a rhythm I was establishing. When I sketched those tight, coiled springs, I felt a playful tension, a burst of energy contained, ready to unfurl. The straight, decisive lines, the dashes, they were like moments of clarity cutting through the vibrant chaos. I loved building up the texture, scraping back some layers to reveal what lay beneath, adding little fragments that shimmered with gold, as if hinting at hidden treasures or forgotten whispers within my own mind. Each mark, each color block, was a step deeper into an internal landscape. The zigzags felt like laughter, or perhaps the unexpected turns life often takes, while the subtle patterns within the blocks were like secrets whispered only to me during the act of creation.

For me, *Haeyum* is more than just a title; it's a concept deeply ingrained in my artistic soul. It’s my word for the boundless ocean of thought, the vast, shimmering expanse where ideas and emotions drift and dance. It’s the constant, fluid motion of consciousness, the way one feeling can morph into another, how memories surface and recede, how observations mingle with pure imagination. When I was creating *Haeyum*, I was essentially diving into my own personal "Haeyum," allowing my thoughts to swim freely across the canvas, leaving trails of color and form. It wasn't about planning every stroke; it was about surrendering to that internal current, letting the paint guide me through the depths and shallows of my own mind. Each element you see is a fragment of that journey, a captured moment from the ceaseless flow. The act of painting *Haeyum* was a profound act of self-discovery, a visual diary of my most intimate mental wanderings. It's a testament to the beautiful, sometimes bewildering, journey of being alive and endlessly thinking, endlessly feeling.
