The Landscape of My Soul: Yellow Dot Approaching

Yellow dot is approaching (36"x36")

There's a whisper on the canvas before the first brushstroke. A quiet hum that pulls me in, urging me to translate the turmoil and joy within. When I first approached this piece, I felt a deep, swirling current inside, something grand and central that demanded to be seen. That's how the vast, organic expanse of orange came to life. It wasn't a planned shape, but rather an echo of my own expanding emotions, a vibrant heart pulsing with an undeniable energy. As I laid down the thick paint, I felt the sheer vitality of it, a warmth radiating from the canvas, a promise of something unfolding.

The calming green embraced this core, a verdant dreamscape where these energetic forms could reside. It’s the breath I take, the grounding earth beneath my restless spirit. But life, as I know it, isn't just about soft transitions. There are sharp edges, weighty presences, and the profound mystery of the unknown. That's where the dense, textured black mass on the left found its place. As my brush carved into it, piling on the impasto, I felt the weight of past experiences, the shadows that define the light, the formidable shape of a challenge or an anchor. It’s heavy, yet it grounds the composition, giving meaning to the buoyancy around it.

Then came the scribbles, the frantic, almost illegible script on the yellow backdrop and across the black form. These are my thoughts, my fleeting worries, my whispered affirmations, all jumbled together. They're the echoes of a mind constantly processing, seeking patterns in the chaos. And the sharp, almost playful yellow dashes, the bright white arcs, and the sudden, star-like burst—they are moments of sudden insight, flashes of inspiration, or the fragmented pieces of understanding that suddenly click into place. Each mark, each line, was a small decision, a tiny leap of faith in the unfolding narrative.

And then, there it was, in the lower right, a small but utterly potent circle of yellow. This is the heart of it all, the essence of what I was reaching for, or what was inevitably reaching for me. "Yellow dot is approaching" isn't just a title; it's a feeling I carry with me, a philosophy for living. For me, that yellow dot represents a truth, a pivotal moment, a revelation, or perhaps even a person or a profound understanding that is steadily, surely, drawing nearer. It's the destination on an otherwise abstract map, the clarity at the end of a winding path. It’s the hopeful anticipation of something significant on the horizon, not a distant dream, but an imminent presence.

I painted the delicate black lines that subtly outline the orange, not to contain it, but to acknowledge its form, its journey. And the small, passionate red elements? They are the raw, unedited bursts of feeling, the sudden pangs or joys that punctuate the larger story. This work is a testament to the internal journey, the constant interplay of light and shadow, hope and uncertainty. It’s the landscape of my soul, always shifting, always yearning, always aware that something beautiful, something profoundly important, is approaching.
