Axis Lucis: A Journey to My Illuminated Core

The canvas before me is a world I built, a silent conversation between color and form, a tangible echo of an inner journey. I named it 'Axis Lucis,' and that title, for me, holds the very core of my artistic and personal philosophy. It means the "Axis of Light," and it represents that fundamental, unwavering truth or guiding principle I constantly seek within myself and the universe. It is the invisible backbone that gives structure to chaos, the illuminated path through the darkest unknowns.
When I began this piece, I was wrestling with the duality of order and intuition. I laid down the deep, resonant blues, feeling the weight of profound stillness, like the oceanic depths where secrets reside. As I built up the texture in these areas, I thought of the countless experiences that build the foundation of who I am, each stroke a memory, a feeling, layered upon another.
Then came the sky blues, lighter and expansive, stretching towards clarity. Drawing that broad, upward-pointing triangular form, I was searching for release, for the feeling of vast open possibility. It was a breath, a moment of emerging from introspection into the light.
The vibrant yellow triangle, a bold assertion in the lower half, was a pure burst of joy and intellectual illumination. When I applied that striking yellow, I wasn't just mixing paint; I was conjuring the energy of discovery, the sudden flash of understanding that cuts through ambiguity. It felt like a spotlight on a hidden truth, dynamic and assertive.
The stark whites, textured and reflective, became spaces for contemplation. I wasn't leaving them empty; rather, I was filling them with the quiet hum of potential, the silence that precedes creation, the pure, unfiltered brilliance of an idea taking shape. My hand, guided by an inner compass, etched delicate lines through these whites, defining boundaries, creating a sense of architecture amidst the fluidity.
The precise, geometric lines that crisscross the canvas, especially those forming the central vertical division, are the 'axis' itself. As I drew these lines, I felt I was mapping my own coordinates, seeking that precise point of balance where everything aligns. They are the structure, the logical framework that allows the light – the vibrant colors, the emotional intensity – to truly shine and reveal itself. They are the invisible threads that weave the universe into a coherent whole.
And the gentle curves, the semicircles that interact with the sharp angles? They are the heartbeat, the cycles of life, the organic flow that exists even within the most rigid structures. Placing them, I found myself thinking of the way intuition softens logic, how the unexpected can find harmony with the planned. The small touches of deep red and black are anchors, grounding points, reminding me of the passionate depths and the essential contrasts that make light so profound.
'Axis Lucis' is, ultimately, my visual diary of finding that illuminated core. It’s about the journey of defining my own axis, understanding where the light truly resides in my life and art, and accepting the beautiful complexity of that ongoing search. Every brushstroke, every color choice, every line drawn, was an act of seeking, an act of discovering, and an act of bringing that internal light into being on the canvas.
