Compositio I: Where Every Stroke Was a Thought, Every Color a Feeling

Compositio I (43"x43")
The canvas beckoned, a quiet space waiting for the story I carried within. When I began Compositio I, it wasn't with a grand plan, but with a feeling – a persistent hum in my soul that yearned for expression. This piece, Compositio I, is exactly that: a composition, an arrangement, my very first step in articulating a new language of form and emotion that had been brewing within me. It’s the initial chord of a melody I'm still learning to sing, a foundational stone in a structure I'm still building.
As my brush moved, I often thought of the warmth of a setting sun, or the rich earth beneath my feet. Those expansive fields of orange and tan were born from that warmth, from a deep sense of connection to the world around me. I layered them, one sweeping curve after another, feeling the flow of life itself, unburdened and generous. I wanted them to breathe, to swell with the quiet joy of existence.
Then came the deeper hues, the profound reds and purples. When I introduced those strokes of intense crimson, I felt a grounding, a pulse of passion that lives just beneath the surface of calm. It's the strength that sustains, the quiet fire. And the violet, with its stark white stripes – that was a whisper of the unexpected, an acknowledgment that even within the most heartfelt expressions, there are moments of striking contrast, of structured beauty interrupting the organic flow. The white lines felt like deliberate thoughts, weaving through a dream.
The black lines, oh, those decisive black lines. They aren't merely outlines; they are the very decisions I make, the boundaries I choose to define, and the clarity I strive for. Drawing them, I felt the exhilaration of bringing form to feeling, of giving a tangible presence to an abstract thought. They carve out space, allowing each color, each curve, each angular plane to assert its own presence, yet remain deeply connected to the whole.
And the white, those luminous areas of white and soft grey – they were my moments of quiet reflection, breaths taken between intense gestures. They are the light that illuminates, the space that allows other elements to shine. The upward-reaching forms and diagonal strokes felt like aspirations, glimpses through a window into possibilities yet to unfold.
Compositio I is a testament to how all these disparate parts – the soft curves and sharp angles, the vibrant hues and the serene whites, the definite lines and the boundless forms – come together. It’s my contemplation of how life itself is a grand composition, a continuous act of arranging chaos into a personal harmony. Every stroke was a thought, every color a feeling, laid bare on the canvas, an honest record of a journey just beginning.
