Mare: A Reflection of My Sea-Bound Soul

Mare: A Reflection of My Sea-Bound Soul

Mare (48"x48")

The canvas, when I first approached it, felt like an expanse of sky waiting to become a sea. And so, I began with this pervasive, gentle blue. It wasn't just a color; it was an immersion, a memory of endless horizons, the kind that soothe the soul and beckon the spirit. This blue, for me, is the very essence of 'Mare' – the vast, deep, and ever-changing ocean. It holds both immense calm and a restless energy, much like the currents within me when I create.

As I laid down the initial strokes of this background, I felt a familiar peace, a sensation of drifting. Then came the lines. The thick, meandering white lines were born from a desire to chart a course, to trace a path through the unknown. They aren't always straight; they wander, they sometimes double back, reflecting the twists and turns of my own journey, the moments of clarity and the detours I've embraced.

The thinner, more vibrant turquoise lines followed, almost spontaneously, like the playful dance of waves or the unseen currents beneath the surface. When I drew these, I wasn't thinking of precision but of vitality, the quickening pulse of life and inspiration. They interlace, sometimes tangled, sometimes flowing freely, echoing the beautiful chaos and unpredictable beauty I find in both nature and my creative process.

Then, a warmer hue entered the scene. The orange-brown lines felt like a grounding force, perhaps a distant coastline glimpsed through a mist, or the sun-drenched sand beneath the tide. They bring a touch of the familiar, a thread of memory, cutting through the cooler blues and whites. I thought of warmth, of home, of the earth that holds the great 'Mare'.

The circles emerged as anchors, moments of undeniable presence. The bright, luminous yellow disc, I painted it with a sense of pure joy, like the sun hanging low over the water, a beacon of hope and energy. It's a point of focus, a promise of light even in the deepest expanses of 'Mare'. And then, the contrasting black circle, smaller, deeper. As I applied that dark pigment, I was acknowledging the profound mysteries, the unexplored depths, the quiet introspective moments that are just as vital as the brightest joys. It's a reminder that beneath the shimmering surface of 'Mare', there are unfathomable worlds.

The scattered tiny dots, white and rust, were my little whispers, specks of starlight on the water, or perhaps grains of sand carried by a distant breeze. They add a delicate texture, a quiet hum to the overall composition.

Ultimately, 'Mare' isn't just a painting; it's a reflection of life as an endless ocean, full of movement, light, shadow, and uncharted territories. It represents the constant ebb and flow of emotions, the courageous venturing into the unknown, and the quiet moments of observation. Each stroke, each color, each line was a breath, a thought, a feeling, captured on this canvas, a piece of my own sea-bound soul.
