The Quiet Hum of Striae Genesis: Weaving Layers of Existence

The Quiet Hum of Striae Genesis: Weaving Layers of Existence

71x71cm)

There's a quiet hum that settles over me when I begin a new piece. It’s not a sound, but a feeling, a deep resonance in my chest that tells me something is stirring. With *Striae Genesis*, that hum was particularly persistent, guiding my hands, my eyes, my very breath.

I remember the initial impulse, a longing to capture the layered complexity of existence, the way life accumulates, fragments, and then reassembles itself into something new. Each strip of paper, each swatch of canvas, wasn't just a material; it was a memory, a fleeting thought, a whisper of a forgotten street or a vibrant moment. When I chose a deep cerulean blue, I wasn’t just picking a color; I was recalling the vastness of the ocean, the profound quiet of a winter sky. And when I laid down that vibrant orange, it was the echo of a bustling market, the warmth of a sunset on a distant horizon.

The cutting, the tearing, the meticulous placement – it all felt like a reconstruction of my own internal landscape. I wasn't merely composing an image; I was weaving my experiences, my observations, my very soul into the fabric of the piece. The ragged edges of some strips, juxtaposed with the clean lines of others, spoke to me of life’s imperfections and its persistent search for order. There were moments of frustration, when a color didn't quite sing, or a texture felt out of place, but then came the breakthrough, the alignment, the sudden, exhilarating harmony.

The title, *Striae Genesis*, holds a very personal significance for me. "Striae" refers to the markings, the streaks, the layers that are left behind on surfaces, like the lines of growth on a tree or the geological strata of the earth. For me, these are the imprints of time, the visual history of a life lived, of experiences accumulated. "Genesis," of course, speaks of beginnings, of creation, of the very origin. Together, *Striae Genesis* is my meditation on how everything we are, everything we see, everything we create, is born from a multitude of layers. It’s the origin story not of a single event, but of the continuous, unfolding process of becoming. It's the belief that from these countless, sometimes chaotic, sometimes deliberate, layers, something profoundly new and beautiful is always being born.

When I placed the fragments of text – a Korean syllable, a German word like "Kunst" (art) or "Liebe" (love), or "Unzeit" (untimeliness) – I wasn't trying to convey a specific message. Instead, I wanted to evoke the feeling of language itself as another layer, another stratum of human experience, constantly intersecting and informing our reality. These words are like tiny anchors, fragments of thought embedded in the broader visual narrative, inviting a moment of pause, a flicker of recognition.

Each circle, each oval of solid color, became a punctuation mark, a moment of stillness amidst the vibrant movement of the vertical lines. They are points of pure, unadulterated color, grounding the composition, much like certain truths or moments of clarity ground us amidst the constant flow of life.

Finishing *Striae Genesis* wasn't like putting the last brushstroke on a painting; it was like stepping back from a conversation, feeling the resonance of all that was said and unsaid. It's a testament to the beautiful, complex messiness of life, and the enduring power of creation to find meaning within it all. It is my origin story, told in color and form, a constant reminder that we are all, in our own unique ways, works of ongoing genesis.
