Viridis Carus: The Beloved Green of Soul and Memory

Viridis Carus: The Beloved Green of Soul and Memory

50x50cm)

The canvas, at first, was a blank expanse, a silent promise. When I began to work on what would become 'Viridis Carus,' I felt an undeniable pull towards green. Not just any green, but a verdant, living green that hums with memory and life. For me, 'Viridis Carus' means 'My Beloved Green' or 'Dear Green,' and it is precisely that – a deeply cherished space within my soul, a landscape of my own making where emotions take root and flourish.

As I laid down the initial swathes of vibrant green, thick with texture, I wasn't just mixing paint; I was breathing life onto the surface. Each stroke felt like a whisper of the forest floor, a rustle of leaves in a forgotten garden, or the quiet strength of growth pushing through the soil. I wanted the viewer to feel immersed, as I was, in this rich, primal hue, this endless field of existence.

Then came the scattered fragments of red, like sudden bursts of passion or the fleeting blush of a sunset. When I splattered those vibrant crimson drops, I was thinking of raw emotion, of life's unpredictable moments that leave their vivid mark. They weren't meant to dominate, but to punctuate, to add a heartbeat to the tranquility of the green.

The bright, almost luminous yellow-gold dots emerged next. For me, these are small treasures, glimmers of joy, or perhaps distant stars in my personal firmament. As I placed each one, I was recalling those precious, fleeting moments that light up our lives, often small and unostentatious, yet profoundly impactful. They are like scattered memories, soft and warm against the deeper greens.

There are also moments of stark white, crisp and clear. The large, curved 'C' shape felt like a gentle embrace or a quiet sigh, while the rectangular block provided a sense of grounding, a solid point amidst the flow. When I created these forms, I was searching for clarity, for a simple truth within the complex tapestry of existence. They are like pauses, moments of silent reflection in a bustling world.

And then, "MEMENTO." It appeared almost instinctively, a quiet reminder of what truly resonates. As I inscribed those letters, I was delving into the very essence of memory – how certain experiences stay with us, shaping our perception, adding layers to our being. This is why 'Viridis Carus' is so beloved to me; it holds not just the beauty of the natural world, but also the echoes of my own journey, the memories that make me who I am. The darker, almost shadowy forms, like the deep green-black rectangle, are those elusive thoughts, the subconscious stirrings, the parts of myself that remain hidden but lend depth to the whole.

This painting is a window into my inner garden, a place where growth and remembrance intertwine. Every line, every color, every unexpected mark, is a trace of my experience, a testament to the agony and profound joy of bringing an internal landscape to life. 'Viridis Carus' is a piece of my soul, laid bare and vibrant, an invitation to wander through the beloved green of my world.
