giho II: A Silent Symphony of Moments

giho II (3 Set) (20"x20")

The whispers of 'giho' have always been a touchstone in my creative world, a quiet anchor to a specific yearning, a particular light. 'giho II' is not just a title, but a testament to how that initial spark has evolved, deepened, and revealed new facets within me. It’s the second chapter in an ongoing conversation with myself, a re-engagement with a feeling that demanded to be revisited, seen through a new lens, with a richer palette of accumulated experiences. When I named this piece, I wasn't just numbering it; I was acknowledging a progression, an understanding that some truths are too vast for a single canvas, requiring a return, a new beginning built on familiar ground.

As I approached the first panel, a vivid yellow-green seemed to hum, a foundation upon which I yearned to build a sense of vibrant life. I laid down those broad washes, feeling the brush glide, and imagined sunlight filtering through dense leaves. The blues that emerged, almost unexpectedly in that upper right corner, felt like a sudden, clear sky opening up, a breath of fresh air amidst the warmth. And that bold orange circle? I placed it there with a surge of delight, a sun, a seed, a focal point of pure energy, a little surprise to anchor the expansive calm. I remember feeling a distinct joy as I added the thick, black, almost calligraphic lines and the softer pink dots, as if I was inscribing a secret language, tiny markers in a personal geography. The 'K' in the lower left corner of this panel wasn't an instruction, but an echo, a fragment of a thought, a form that simply felt right in its place, a quiet affirmation.

Moving to the central panel, the oranges and deeper golds took over, engulfing me in their warmth. I wanted this section to feel like a memory, rich and complex, with textures that hinted at layers of time. As I built up these tones, allowing them to bleed into one another, I thought about the way experiences accumulate, some sharp, some blurred. The angular 'V' shape emerged, not as a letter, but as a dynamic arrow, a sense of direction or perhaps a gentle peak in the landscape of feeling. The soft, rounded curves in mint green and black, juxtaposed with the starker rectangles, spoke to me of the dance between the structured world and the fluid nature of emotion. I recall feeling a profound sense of introspection as I worked on this part, each stroke a meditation on the beauty found in unexpected contrasts. The small, gridded paper fragment I affixed, with its delicate curve, was a tiny window, a moment of precision amidst the soft chaos, a thought captured.

The final panel called for a renewed brightness, a resolution, yet still holding onto the depth I'd explored. The vivid chartreuse and sunny yellows became dominant here, a reawakening. I found myself instinctively reaching for strong, graphic shapes – the bold black 'T', the confident blue 'H', the deep purple 'U' curve. These weren't literal symbols for me, but rather structural elements, pillars in a landscape of thought. They represented strength, a quiet resilience, and a playful spirit. As I applied the soft pink rectangles and the varied dots, I felt a sense of completion, not of an ending, but of reaching a harmonious understanding. It was a joyful culmination of the journey I’d begun on the first panel, a sense of bright clarity after traversing the intricacies of memory.

For me, 'giho II' is a silent symphony of these moments. It’s a triptych not because it's three separate stories, but because life itself unfolds in phases, in distinct but interconnected chapters. It’s about the joy of discovery in each brushstroke, the quiet struggle to find balance between spontaneity and intention, and the ultimate triumph of bringing an internal world into tangible existence. It’s the act of finding meaning in the interplay of color and form, and allowing that meaning to be as fluid and personal for the viewer as it was for me in its creation. Each time I look at 'giho II', I'm reminded of the profound pleasure of creation, of allowing myself to simply *be* in the process, and letting the work speak its own truth.
